Evansville serves as a regional medical center with three major hospitals and numerous other health care providers.

  • Deaconess Health System
    Deaconess Health System is a premiere provider of health care services in southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky and southeastern Illinois. The system includes four hospitals, located in southern Indiana: Deaconess Hospital, an acute care facility; The Women’s Hospital, serving the needs of women and infants; Deaconess Cross Pointe, a behavioral health hospital; and HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, specializing in comprehensive medical rehabilitation. Also included in the system are a freestanding cancer center, a health system and physician owned managed care network of preferred hospitals and doctors, two ambulatory surgery centers, 14 ambulatory care sites, two urgent care facilities and multiple partnerships with other health care providers.

    Deaconess Hospital
    Deaconess Hospital, a not-for-profit, acute-care hospital located in Evansville, Indiana, offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and diagnostic services. As a 360-bed tertiary care center, Deaconess is one of the largest hospitals in the region, serving a 26-county area of southwestern Indiana, southeastern Illinois, and northwestern Kentucky. Advanced care is available at Deaconess in emergency, cardiovascular, cancer, neuro, orthopedic and pulmonary services. Deaconess is a teaching hospital with a family practice residency program and provides a site for clinical education for several ancillary programs.

    The Women’s Hospital
    The Women’s Hospital is the only hospital within a 100-mile radius of Evansville that is dedicated solely to serving the healthcare needs of women and infants. With a special focus on family-centered care, The Women’s Hospital houses 21 labor/delivery/recovery/post-partum (LDRP) rooms, three high-risk antepartum rooms, 12 med/surg beds, five surgical suites, a five-bay triage/observation area, a well-baby nursery and 21 neonatal intensive care beds. The hospital’s second and third floors house physician office practices and specialty services. Expansion is adding more rooms available in July 2005.

    Deaconess Cross Pointe
    Deaconess Cross Pointe provides mental health services and psychiatric care to meet the emotional and behavioral health care needs of teens, adults, seniors and their families. The east-side Evansville facility is fully accredited and offers care and treatment at all levels through both outpatient programs and a fully accredited 60-bed inpatient facility.

    HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Ho spital
    HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital specializes in comprehensive medical rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, recreational, and speech therapy services for patients recovering from injury or illness. As the only hospital dedicated exclusively to rehabilitation in this region, HealthSouth is committed to providing state-of-the-art, results-oriented rehabilitation services.

    Deaconess Chancellor Center for Oncology
    Deaconess Chancellor Center for Oncology, located on the Deaconess Gateway campus, is a premier provider of outpatient cancer services. The Chancellor Center offers a broad range of care and support for cancer patients and their families. Its services include radiation therapy, chemotherapy infusion, nutrition counseling, pain management, spiritual support, cancer rehabilitation, community education, support groups and a lending library. The center provides cancer education, support services and state-of-the-art therapies in an emotionally and spiritually healing environment.

    Deaconess Urgent Care Centers
    Deaconess Urgent Care Centers, located at Lawndale and Northbrook in Evansville, give patients an option when urgent medical care is needed. Open every day, including weekends and holidays, the Urgent Care Centers are designed to treat injuries or illnesses that do not require the extensive capabilities of a hospital emergency department and may occur when you are unable to contact your regular physician.

    Deaconess Health Plans
    Deaconess Health Plans (DHP), a preferred provider organization (PPO), consists of a network of 700 physicians, 16 hospitals, and a growing number of specialized medical facilities throughout southwestern Indiana, southeastern Illinois, and northwestern Kentucky. DHP works closely with business and industry to help control health care costs while maintaining the highest standards in quality care.

    Deaconess Breast Center
    Deaconess Breast Center, located on the first floor of the Deaconess Physician Center at 520 Mary Street, offers complete breast care, including mammography, stereotactic breast biopsies, breast ultrasounds, osteoporosis screenings and breast ultrasound-guided biopsies.

    Heartcare Health System
    Heartcare Health System was formed in 1996 as a hospital/physician joint venture between Deaconess Hospital and The Heart Group. As leaders in cardiovascular services, the two share a common mission to enhance the heart health status and the provision of quality cardiovascular services to consumers in the Tri-State.

    Evansville Surgery Center
    Evansville Surgery Center specializes in ambulatory, outpatient surgery at two locations in Evansville, the main Deaconess campus and the east-side Deaconess Gateway campus. The center performs gynecological, otolaryngological, general, ophthalmological, orthopedic, and cosmetic surgical procedures. Evansville Surgery Center utilizes the latest technology, lasers and precision instrumentation and carefully selects staff members for their extensive experience, advanced training and outstanding personalized care.

    Deaconess Medical Group
    Deaconess Medical Group (DMG) is a primary care based group practice comprised of hospital-employed physicians at ambulatory sites and in urgent care centers located in Evansville and surrounding communities in southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky.

    Gateway Radiologic Imaging
    Gateway Radiologic Imaging uses the newest, most accurate diagnostic technology for everything from routine procedures to today’s most challenging areas, including pediatric radiology, neuroradiology and orthopedic imaging.

    Deaconess Riley Children’s Services
    Through an exclusive partnership with Riley Hospital for Children, Deaconess offers unprecedented access to advanced pediatric health care services via the Deaconess Riley Children’s Specialty Center, an extensive telemedicine program and a 16-bed pediatric unit that will be part of the new Deaconess Gateway Hospital, scheduled to open in December 2005.

    Deaconess Gateway Hospital
    Located near I-164 and the Lloyd, Deaconess Gateway Hospital is an expansion of the main Deaconess Hospital campus in Evansville, Indiana. Deaconess Gateway Hospital houses 116 beds and provide a full range of acute care services, including emergency medicine, surgical services and comprehensive pediatric services provided through a partnership with Riley Hospital for Children. Deaconess Gateway is located off Epworth Road, near the intersection of I-164 and the Lloyd Expressway.

  • St. Mary's Medical Center, operated by the Daughters of Charity, maintains 520 acute-care patient beds, 32 extended care patient beds, and a special care nursery. Services include a laser center, programs for industry, Chemical Dependence Center, Heart Institute, Women's Health Services, Regional Services, Long Term Care Program for Senior Citizens, Health Matters Center, SicKids Center for ill children of parents at work, and a heliport for air transportation. Expansion of the cardiac catheter lab and a new medical office building was completed in 1991.

    In 1998, St. Mary’s Medical Center acquired Welborn Baptist Hospital, a 407 bed facility general hospital providing medical, surgical, and mental health services. Its advanced diagnostic capabilities include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CAT scanning. The service lines of the hospital in addition to the other traditional hospital services include, cardiovascular and open heart surgical services; neuroscience services; specialized services for pediatric, adolescent, and adult mental health and chemical dependency; the birthplace; neo natal and pediatric intensive care; rehabilitation; Workwell - occupational health services; men's health services; and LifeFlight, an air ambulance service. In 1992, the hospital opened the new 49,000 square foot Mulberry Center Professional Building, a state-of-the art mental health facility and the Oakpark Medical Office Building when full will provide office space for fifteen (15) physician specialists. Additionally, there is a day care center for the hospital and medical staffs as well as Sickbay, a care facility for ill children while parents are at work.

    In 2004, St. Mary's opened a satellite facility in Washington Square Mall.
