Infrastructure Improvements
Assistance from the State of Indiana provides local communities with infrastructure improvements to a companys site. Such grants and loans may include funding for roads, rail spurs, water lines and sewer lines.
EDGE
Your company may be eligible for EDGE, a state tax credit based on payroll. Indiana individual income tax withholdings from company employees can be credited against the companys Indiana corporate income tax liability. Excess withholdings would be refunded to the company. The credit awarded can be a fixed amount per year or a percentage of taxes withheld. These credits can be awarded for up to 10 years
Training & Recruitment
Vanderburgh County and the State of Indiana can provide the training and employment services that will put in place the workforce for your company. For example, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation can provide a grant to support a skills training program. The funds could be used in a variety of ways to build one that meets the needs for a new project including customized training programs in specific skills areas for new employees and skills development training for existing employees.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development can provide labor force recruitment services including the application process, testing and the assessment and screening of qualified applicants. The most qualified applicants will be recommended for an interview with your company as a potential employee.
Funds from the federal Job Training Partnership Act may be available to support on-site training programs offered by both the Southern Indiana Private Industry Council and Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana.
The southwestern Indiana campus of Ivy Tech State College, part of the statewide vocational education system, can assist your company to implement an existing training program or a program developed by Ivy Tech specifically for a project in Vanderburgh County.
In addition, Vanderburgh County is in the Southwest Indiana Private Industry Council (PIC) which assists employers in identifying trained workers who are qualified for specific manufacturing procedures. Your company may also make use of Indianas Job Service Matching System (JSMS) which enables employers to access a pool of available workers from throughout the state in order to identify potential employees whose skills meet specific job needs.
Training Cost Assistance
Vanderburgh County and the State of Indiana can provide training and employment services that will put in place the workforce for your company. For example, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation can offer a grant for up to 50 percent of eligible training costs. Awards for retraining have a maximum ceiling of $200,000. Eligible uses include basic-skills training, transferable-skills training, company-specific skills training and quality-assurance training. Also, up to 75 percent of related costs may be reimbursed for those companies seeking to become QS-9000 certified.
